Disembarking commuters at Bishan MRT station had to manually force platform screen doors apart, even as train doors took several minutes to open on the evening of Jan 28.

Videos posted to social media show commuters amid a chaotic situation inside the train cabins and on the packed platform.

In a Tiktok clip posted by @8_aron, three passengers in a nearly empty cabin are seen pulling the platform screen doors apart to disembark.

@8_aron, whose real name is Aaron Tan, told Stomp that he witnessed the incident at 7.33pm on the train bound for Marina South Pier on the North South Line.

According to Mr Tan, the train began stopping intermittently from Yio Chu Kang and passengers were informed of a five-minute delay at the next stop, Ang Mo Kio.

"Before entering Bishan station, it stopped for a long time till the train announcement said that there will be another four-minute delay," he said.

All the platform screen doors on the platform were faulty, added Mr Tan, and he watched as passengers had to force the doors open from inside the train. When it eventually departed the station, the platform screen doors remained open.

Filmed on platform A in the direction of Marina South Pier, the first train captured on video stops at the platform and departs after five minutes, according to the caption. Its doors do not open for passengers to alight or board.

Passengers wait several minutes before the doors of the next train open after arriving at the station. The camera pans to the waiting crowd on the platform.

Alighting passengers are then seen pushing the platform screen doors apart. The TikToker filming the clip managed to board the train, noting that the platform doors did not close afterwards.
