AMKTC steps up checks after Fernvale riser fire, reminds residents not to store items in common areas

Original article:

A fire broke out in the electrical riser of a Fernvale Road block on Sept 18.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp it was alerted to the fire at Block 411B Fernvale Road at about 6.30am.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze with a water jet. No injuries were reported.

Stomper Julie, a resident at the affected block, told Stomp she wanted to spread awareness about fire safety.

"We smelt smoke in the flat that came in from the electric riser located outside our place," she said.

"According to the town council, the fire started from the 10th floor electrical riser and burnt upwards affecting residents up to 16 floors.

"I want to remind Stompers not to store things in electrical risers otherwise, the fire will spread faster.

"I also want to thank the SPF and SCDF's fast response to assist us.

"Our Ang Mo Kio Town Council was awesome as well and kept up to date on the situation and ensured restoration of our power supply came back within the day at about 6pm."

Stomper Anderson also contributed videos showing fire engines at the scene and several residents waiting around a void deck.

A fire alarm can be heard ringing in the background.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
