Netizen claims M'sian vehicle owners used free carpark at ECP before heading to airport: 'Thanks for sharing the trick'
A netizen who claimed two Malaysian-registered vehicles parked overnight for free at a car park meant for East Coast Park (ECP) visitors may have gotten an unanticipated reaction.
Facebook user @GenuineAlligator9452 shared the image on Facebook group Complaint Singapore on Feb 24 with the caption "Saw them parked their cars at East Coast car park G which is FREE, then took a Grab with their luggage, likely to the airport. Smart but it (has) taken up the lots of park goers."
The post has received 349 reactions and 308 comments.
While a few commenters suggested reporting the drivers as overnight parking is not permitted, most netizens either thanked or slammed the original poster for revealing this hack. "Thanks for sharing the trick with all of us!" said one.
Others were disgruntled. "There goes my parking lot. Thanks for telling the whole world. I live in Jurong West – it's my go to carpark to park to go to (Bangkok) for a few days," said a netizen.
Several were worried that the free parking would cease. "Soon ... This car park will be chargeable," a commenter lamented.
Many felt that the vehicle owners had done no wrong, with some pointing out that they pay a vehicle-entry permit fee that amounts to $35 daily. Another noted that many Singaporeans also enjoy free parking when driving across the Causeway.
"At least they didn't use the illegal cross border service," quipped a netizen, referring to unlicensed chauffeured rides between Singapore and Malaysia.
