Residents at Aljunied Crescent say their neighbourhood is plagued by rats, litter, and late-night gambling.

Stomper Aerie told Stomp: "I'm writing to express my disgust at the living conditions of the residents of Aljunied Crescent, whose environment is rampantly breeding rats amongst uncleared litter clutters and open gambling."

Aerie shared a photo showing a family of rats at a grass patch near the residents' corner outside the McDonald's at Block 113 Aljunied Crescent.

"The estate is also mosquito-infested and looks like it hasn't been cleaned or upgraded in a long time," said the Stomper.

"I hope the MP for the area is aware of the deteriorating situation in his Aljunied Crescent neighbourhood."

According to Aerie, the issue is not new.

"I heard from residents there that this has been going on for the longest time and they've gotten used to it.

"I've also surfaced this to the Municipal Services Office (MSO), who said they are looking into it, along with the constant public gambling at Blocks 97, 98, 99, 101 and 112."

This echoes complaints from residents interviewed by Shin Min Daily News, who linked the rat infestation at Block 112 to illegal gambling gatherings at the void deck.

Mr Chen, 59, said he had seen as many as 20 to 30 rats scurrying around the area in recent weeks, especially after rain.

Another resident, Ms Lee, claimed that people gather nightly to gamble at the block, bringing along baskets to dispose of food waste, which she believes has attracted pests.

At least several rat burrows were spotted around the block, and Mr David, 49, shared that rats even climb the stairwells to the upper floors at night.

"It's noisy, there's a rat infestation, and even a strong smell of urine," added Mr Lee, 43.

In response, the Marine Parade Town Council told the Chinese daily that pest control had been activated to exterminate the rats, and weekly inspections are being carried out.

Dustbins are also regularly cleaned to prevent rodent breeding.

The town council added that it is monitoring the situation and adjusting its pest control strategies accordingly.

Residents are reminded to do their part to keep shared spaces clean.
