US TikToker calls S'pore expensive after spending $1,500 on food, says she didn't want to eat at stalls
A US TikToker named Tour De Bree wondered why nobody told her Singapore was so expensive after spending more than $9,000 for five nights here.
But netizens called her out for choosing the costlier options during her stay.
In the video posted on July 25, she said her hotel was $1,200 a night, making it a total of $6,000 for five night. The video indicates that she stayed at Resorts World Sentosa.
"Airbnb is illegal in Singapore. So all the hotels are hella expensive," claimed the TikToker.
She added that transportation was about $800, including a $90 transfer from the airport.
Her food cost $1,500, which included $85 for a tuna salad and calamari.
"Is Singapore worth visiting? Yes! But is it worth the price? No," she concluded.
The video has more than 125,000 views.
Many commented that she chose the expensive stuff.
Someone suggested: "You can stay in a budget hotel. Take public transport."
Another netizen pointed out: "Kopitiam chicken rice is $5."
Responding, the TikToker commented on her own video: "I see some Singaporeans are mad in the comments saying there’re cheaper accommodation and food BUT I didn’t want to stay in a hostel or eat at stalls or ride the train."
To which someone replied: "Right, but then its hypocritical to complain about the country being expensive while choosing the expensive options."
Another commenter, who was more helpful, said: "I do agree that SG is expensive but there are so many other cheaper options that doesn’t include u having to take the train, stay in a hostel or eat at stalls.
"A hotel room in the city of SG with the most amazing views (much better than Resorts World Sentosa) would cost you about $400 a night. Could be $500 but that’s still lower than what you paid.
"Taxis or private hire services can get you anywhere! It only cost me max $30 to get from the airport to the south of Singapore (close to Sentosa). Try downloading Grab or Gojek next time.
"If you’re not a fan of stall/hawker food (you’re missing out), there are SO many restaurants/cafes in SG that have affordable and delicious food. Google gives you GREAT recommendations."
