‘Unfortunate’ that neighbour’s Jeep caught fire during Hari Raya, says Bedok Reservoir Road resident
A resident was shocked to see her neighbour’s Jeep on fire in their estate’s carpark at Bedok Reservoir Road.
Stomper 602 Resident said she was at home on April 1 when she smelt something burning and noticed a thick plume of smoke just before 5pm.
She looked out of the window and saw that a car had caught fire in the carpark of the neighbouring Block 601 Bedok Reservoir Road. She observed that the fire was in the vehicle’s engine section.
The Stomper identified the car as a Jeep belonging to a neighbour who lives at Block 601. She said she did not know the neighbour well, but would say hi whenever their paths crossed.
“The Jeep is slightly a year old. It’s unfortunate, especially during Hari Raya,” 602 Resident said, as this meant that her neighbour could no longer drive to festive gatherings.
The Stomper also witnessed her neighbour leaving the vehicle and attempting to put out the fire before it spread to other parts of the car. However, there was subsequently “a small explosion seen and heard”.
Worried, she contacted the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) at around 5.06pm, which had received multiple calls regarding the fire.
No injuries reported: SCDF
In response to Stomp’s queries, the SCDF said that it was alerted to the fire at about 5.05pm.
The fire, which involved a car, was extinguished by SCDF using a hose reel.
“There were no reported injuries,” said SCDF, adding that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
