Three teenagers, aged 14 to 15, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment by fire.

On Sept 24, at about 3.05pm, police were alerted to a residential unit at Boon Lay Drive, where the main door and gate had been set on fire.

A wall at the nearby staircase landing was also defaced with loanshark-related graffiti.

Through swift follow-up investigations and the aid of police camera images, officers from Jurong Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department identified and arrested the three teenagers within six hours of the incident.

A mobile phone, black marker, black hoodie, and a pair of sunglasses were seized as case exhibits.

Investigations against the teenagers are ongoing.

For first-time offenders, loanshark harassment carries a fine of $5,000 to $50,000, up to five years' jail, and caning of up to six strokes.

Police reiterated that they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment: "Youths should not assume that they can get away lightly because of their age.

"Anyone who vandalises property, causes annoyance, or disrupts public safety will be dealt with severely under the law."

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not assist them in any way.

Anyone with information on loansharking activites can call the police hotline at 1800-255-0000 or submit details online at www.police.gov.sg/i-witness.
