A commuter is questioning whether the way two people dressed while taking the MRT train was appropriate.

Stomper Audrey shared photos of an individual wearing skimpy black shorts and a midriff-revealing cropped top at the busy Jurong East MRT station on March 3 at 5.50pm.

Audrey said it looked almost like the individual was wearing panties.

"Is underwear appropriate?" asked the Stomper.

"I understand there is a law in Singapore that talks about no nudity or over-exposure in public if I'm not wrong."

Under Singapore's Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act, appearing nude in a public place or in a private place exposed to public view is illegal.

The Act states: "The reference to a person appearing nude includes a person who is clad in such a manner as to offend against public decency or order."

Offenders face fines up to $2,000, imprisonment for up to three months, or both.

What made it worse was that this happened during peak hour, said Audrey. "The person had alighted from a train I was on, and that train was fully packed."

The Stomper also shared a photo of another commuter whose clothes she had an issue with. The photo was taken at Clementi MRT station on March 2 at 2.16pm.

The commuter was in a sleeveless top and short shorts, though this was not as short as the other individual's.

"Is this decent?" asked Audrey.

"To me, this is not the kind of clothes that's appropriate for public areas like on the train. It's meant to be home wear."

She added that she has been seeing women taking the MRT in sports bras and shorts recently.

"It's getting a bit too much, I feel," said Audrey.

A month earlier, another Stomper called out an individual wearing a revealing outfit that included swimming briefs while travelling on the Downtown Line on Feb 5.

"While the person's private areas were technically covered, the attire was very revealing and inappropriate for a public transport setting," said the commuter.
