A couple were shocked to discover a sharp metal object poking out of their toddler's playgroup uniform pants shortly after purchasing the item from a designated supplier.

Stompers Daryl and Wendy said they bought the uniform from Asencio at Hillview Avenue on Nov 22.

According to them, the issue surfaced only after the uniform had been washed and prepared for their son to wear. While stamping their child's name on the clothing, Wendy felt something unusual beneath the fabric.

"To my shock, there was a very sharp metal piece sticking out from the inner front of the pants," Wendy recounted. The object, described as similar to a needle head, was embedded in the seam.

The couple said the discovery left them deeply unsettled.

"This could have seriously injured our toddler," they said, noting that young children are constantly running and moving.

"We are extremely disturbed by the potential danger and the lack of quality inspection that allowed such a hazardous item to be sewn into children's clothing."

The couple were disappointed with the response from the supplier when they returned to the store.

"The representatives did not show sincerity, concern, or any meaningful apology," they told Stomp. "There was no acknowledgement of the seriousness of the safety risk, nor any reassurance about reviewing their quality control process."

The couple said they felt compelled to raise awareness and prevent similar incidents from happening to other children.

"We strongly believe this situation warrants public attention so that relevant parties take immediate action to improve safety standards," they added. "We hope that by sharing our experience, other parents can be more vigilant and the supplier will be held accountable to ensure such negligence is not repeated."

In response to a Stomp query, Asencio said it viewed the matter as a "one-off incident which has never happened in (its) years of operations".

A spokesperson said the company had apologised over the phone and offered to exchange the pants for a new pair.

"In order for us to investigate the matter and prevent future occurrences, we did request for some photos so that we can understand the matter better and take necessary actions," the spokesperson added.

"We have not heard from them since our last message."

Wendy confirmed with Stomp that she was offered an exchange, but said she has yet to find the time to head down to Asencio.
