A man received an offer for his television via Facebook Marketplace on July 14, but soon realised the buyer was attempting to scam him.

Stomper Douglas received an offer from a Facebook user who was interested in buying his TV for $240.

The buyer offered to pay full price for the item, but requested to make his payment through GoGoX, a logistics service which includes door-to-door deliveries.

"The buyer sent me a link requiring me to enter my banking credentials," said Douglas. "But I didn't."

Douglas contacted GoGoX's customer service, who told him they only provide their services for Carousell.

When Douglas told the buyer he was not proceeding with the transaction, the buyer threatened to report him to the police.

The Stomper replied: "I have already reported it."

Douglas told Stomp: "The attempt was very realistic, but they failed in this attempt."

About two hours later, another buyer tried to perform the same scam on Douglas.

Stomp has contacted the police for more information.

Douglas is not alone in his experience.

Stomp previously reported on another Facebook Marketplace user who was trying to sell his $680 drone, only to similarly encounter a fake buyer.

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary measures against scams by applying the ACT acronym, which outlines three steps to take: Add security features, check for signs of a scam with official sources, and tell the authorities and others when you encounter scams.

Do not click on suspicious links or enter your personal details and credentials on dubious websites.
