Residents at Block 488A Tampines Avenue 9 banded together to extinguish a recycling bin fire on Sept 22.

Stomper Katie, who witnessed the incident, said she spotted cardboard beside a recycling bin catching fire and called 995.

"The recycling bin was also burnt," she added.

Before the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived, residents had already stepped in to help.

"An old uncle brought a pail down and fetched water from a nearby tap, while another resident brought a fire extinguisher to put out the remaining fire," the Stomper recounted.

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 7.50am.

The blaze, which involved the contents of a recycling bin, was extinguished using a hose reel.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
