A resident has raised health concerns over pigeon feeding at Block 283 Tampines Street 22.

Stomper Rosalina shared with Stomp that her upstairs neighbour has been feeding pigeons below.

"It is not the first time I have encountered this," she said.

"Upon closer observation, cashew nuts were deliberately broken into pieces with the intention of feeding the birds below.

"There's been a surge in the bird population here, with crows attacking humans, and now pigeon feeders.

"Without the community's cooperation, this problem will continue to persist."

In response to a Stomp query, Tampines Town Council said pigeon feeding poses hygiene risks and may attract pests, affecting residents' well-being. It also remains committed to tackling the issue and keeping the estate clean and safe for all.

"Such behaviour requires both education and enforcement measures to change," a town council spokesperson said.

"We have put up notices to remind residents not to feed birds, and why it is hazardous to do so."

Feeding wild animals without written approval is an offence under the Wildlife Act, and first-time offenders may be fined up to $5,000.

The town council added that it will continue to monitor the area and work with residents to encourage responsible disposal of food waste.

Residents can also report bird feeding cases using the OneService app.
