'Permit given?' Crowd floods streets and roads in Woodlands for Halloween celebration
A huge crowd gathered in Woodlands on Oct 31 to celebrate Halloween, sparking an online debate about whether it is appropriate.
Stomper Lim said the gathering took place in Woodgrove near Singapore American School, an area known for its large population of international school students.
He shared photos and videos showing a crowd adorned in Halloween costumes along Woodlands Avenue 1. Numerous people can be seen on the streets and crossing the roads.
A 14-second TikTok clip posted by @byim4n also captured the packed streets, amassing around 6,800 likes and 90,000 views to date.
The video sparked debate among netizens, with reactions divided:
Critics questioned the appropriateness and impact of such a large gathering:
- "Since when is Halloween part of our culture? Zzzzzzz."
 - "Why does nobody dress up during the seventh month? It's literally the local version of Halloween."
 - "Permit given for such mass gathering?"
 - "These is near my house; when Halloween comes, there were jams and so noisy with vehicles, even all the eateries were crowded."

Supporters defended the celebration, saying it was a chance for people, especially youths, to enjoy themselves:
- "People say Singapore is boring, but when others celebrate something, they complain again."
 - "Why are people so mad at others for celebrating different events?"
 - "Some of y'all are just bitter you weren't there."

One netizen summed up the unprecedented scale of the turnout: "Yea dude, I've lived here my whole life and I've never seen this many people before."
