NEA steps up enforcement over litter and food waste near Tuas dormitory: 28 tickets issued since January
Litter and food waste have been accumulating daily near 67Q Tuas South Avenue 1, opposite Tuas View Dormitory, creating unsanitary and unpleasant conditions.
Stomper Kit Cheong said he noticed the situation on Oct 14 at about 8am, describing a 200m stretch of grass patch heavily littered with unfinished rice packets, glass liquor bottles, packet drinks and other trash.
"The area is extremely dirty and emits a strong foul smell," he said, adding that several crows and pigeons were seen scavenging through the rubbish, which may create "potential public health and pest control risks".
"The situation appears to be worsening and has become both unsightly and hazardous.
"Based on conversations with the cleaning team working at the premises, this issue is a daily occurrence.
"According to the cleaners, large groups of workers gather there to eat and drink liquor.
"After they are finished, they just dump everything on the grass patch and walk away.
"Disturbingly, some were even seen laughing and smiling while watching the cleaning team pick up the trash, demonstrating a blatant disregard for public cleanliness and respect for service workers."
In response to a Stomp query, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the agency is aware of the cleanliness concerns and has strengthened enforcement presence in the area.
"Since January 2025, NEA has issued 28 tickets for littering and other public health offences in the area," an NEA spokesperson said.
"Additionally, NEA has taken enforcement action against a nearby premises owner for failing to maintain cleanliness in the immediate vicinity of their premises."
The spokesperson added that the area is cleaned daily, and additional bins have been placed to encourage proper waste disposal.
"Everyone has a part to play in upholding high standards of cleanliness and public health in Singapore," NEA said, adding that it will continue with its educational, stakeholder engagement and enforcement efforts to encourage all to exercise social graciousness and take ownership in keeping Singapore clean.
