Receiving hongbaos during Chinese New Year is always a joy, but what if the red packet came from a stranger on public transport?

Malaysian content creator Wei Chung, who is currently working in Singapore, experienced just that and shared the heartwarming moment in a video posted on Chinese social media app Xiaohongshu.

In the clip, an elderly man was seen approaching Wei Chung on the train with a stack of red packets in hand.

When Wei Chung asked if he could film the interaction, the uncle politely declined but encouraged him to pick hongbao from the stack.

The uncle then sweetly asked, "Can we take a photo together?" before snapping a selfie with Wei Chung.

Wei Chung chose a red packet bearing the message, "To have boundless prospects" and thanked the uncle before alighting.

The content creator explained in his post, "My birthday is in January, so he gave me a hongbao. He also wants to give his blessings to everyone."

Although the red packet appeared to be empty, the gesture deeply touched netizens, many of whom praised the uncle's warmth and generosity.

One netizen joked: "I'm born in January too! I also want to meet this uncle and get an ang bao!"

Another added, "The uncle is so sweet. Next time, I'm taking the MRT at this timing to see if I can meet him."
