'Last warning! Before I do again!': Woman nabbed for splashing paint on Boon Lay flat

A 36-year-old woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.

On Sept 29, the police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit at Boon Lay Drive, where the unit's main gate was splashed with red paint.

A debtor's note was also left outside the unit that read: "Last warning! Before I do again! WhatsApp to settle!"

With the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division identified the woman and arrested her on the same day.

Preliminary investigations revealed that she is believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

The woman will be charged in court on Oct 1 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, up to five years' jail, and caning of up to six strokes.

The police said they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities and will not hesitate to take firm action against those who vandalise property, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security.

Members of the public are also advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.
