Large flock of cyclists spotted along West Coast Highway, Stomper asks if it's legal
A commuter waiting at a bus stop along West Coast Highway saw a large group of cyclists riding together on the road.
The Stomper, shared a video of the scene, showing the cyclists riding closely together at about 6am on Aug 3.
"Is this legal?" he asked.
He added that he frequently spots big groups of cyclists on the weekends.
According to the Land Transport Authority, cyclists must keep to a maximum length of five bicycles when riding in groups, which means a maximum of five cyclists when riding in single file, or 10 cyclists when riding two abreast on roads with more than one lane.
Groups should also keep a minimum distance of 30m, or two lamp posts, between one another.
Cyclists are also advised to always ride as close as practicable to the far left edge of roads to allow traffic to overtake them safely.
Those who are caught flouting the cycling group size rule will be fined $150.
