What rules are these cyclists breaking?
A total of 37 errant cyclists were caught for violating the cycling group size rule and issued composition fines on Sept 28 and Oct 13.
The Traffic Police and the Land Transport Authority said in an Oct 18 joint statement that during the enforcement operations, they also engaged cyclists to raise awareness on cycling rules and guidelines.

Two Stompers recently shared videos of alleged errant cyclists on the road.
The first two clips were taken by Stomper L at Telok Blangah Road on Oct 13 morning. He said the cyclists were "hogging".
The other video was taken at Orchard Road on Oct 18 night by Stomper Michael who said the cyclists were "occupying left two lanes, weaving in and out, some without lights and helmets".
What are the rules cyclists must obey?
They are:
- Obey all traffic signals and travel in the same direction as the flow of traffic.
- Wear helmets when cycling on roads.
- Always ride as close as practicable to the far left edge of roads and allow traffic to overtake them safely.
- Cycle in a single file on single-lane roads and during bus lane operational hours.
- Switch on front white and rear red lights in the dark.
- Always use bicycle lanes when available, and do not use any other part of the roadway.
- Keep to a maximum length of five bicycles when riding in groups, which means a maximum of five cyclists if riding in a single file, or 10 cyclists if riding two abreast (only on roads with more than one lane).
- Refrain from using mobile communication devices while riding.
- Refrain from cycling on expressways, in road tunnels, and selected viaducts.
Cyclists who are caught flouting the cycling group size rule will be fined $150.
This composition fine amount was raised with effect from Jan 1, 2022, to improve road safety and applies to those who break other existing cycling rules.
This includes failure to stop at red lights, cycling on expressways, and riding abreast of another cyclist along single lane roads or within bus lanes during bus lane operational hours.
