A man paid $12 for a BBQ spring chicken, which he said was the worst he has ever had in his life.

Stomper Max visited the Chong Pang Huat stall at Kovan Market & Food Centre and shared a photo of his chicken, which had some charred parts.

He told Stomp on Nov 17: "The meat is tasteless. It is so dried and so hard like a rock. I believe this whole chicken was left over from previous days that they just barbecued again with almost 3/4 of its surface burnt. It is the worst BBQ chicken I've ever tasted in my entire life.

"What's worse is the owner's attitude really pisses you off. I'll never come back to this stall again."

However, Max did not elaborate further on what happened.

A spokesman for Chong Pang Huat refuted the Stomper's claims.

He said in response to a Stomp query: "The complainant said the chicken is tasteless, but our marinade is the same every day for both chicken wings and spring chickens. We do not have issues from other people regarding our taste.

"We do not keep leftover food and this is clearly an allegation that cannot be proven. Food leftover from four days ago would be rotten

"I believe 'burnt' is subjective. From the picture, in my opinion, this chicken is not burnt. The charred parts are the bottom part of the chicken and not on its surface. We usually only trim out any charred parts on the surface of the chicken. Slight charring is, I believe, a byproduct of any food that is barbecued, especially by charcoal."

Noting that "food is subjective", the spokesman said: "If any customer is unsatisfied with our food, we will gladly refund them their money."

The spokesman said Max can reach out for a refund and added: "We also apologise for any unpleasant experience."
