A jaywalker caught on video stopping in the middle of the road as a car bears down on him has drawn jeers from netizens, with many calling him a Kpod zombie.
The video, taken in Ang Mo Kio in the wee hours of Sept 17 and first posted on Facebook page SGRV, had 61,000 views, 213 reactions, and 75 comments at press time.
The video was also shared on Instagram by sgfollowsall.backup and on Reddit.
It shows a man staggering across the three-laned road from a concrete road divider which he may have climbed over. He stops in the middle lane as the car recording the video approaches him.
Head bowed, he gesticulates with his right hand as the car drives around him.
Multiple commenters called the jaywalker a zombie or a Kpod vape user, with remarks such as "Zombie in Ang Mo Kio" and "Kpod dance".
Some alluded to the Hungry Ghost Festival, while the jaywalker's unsteady gait and uncoordinated movements had some drawing comparisons with Michael Jackson's moonwalk, with one even posting a gif from the Thriller music video.
But not all comments were light-hearted. "Why not call the police and arrest him?" said one Facebook user in Chinese.
"Must report else more of these people around. When accidents happen, drivers will be penalised. Like the poor 70 year old taxi driver knocked down a jay walking drunken lady. He's charged for failed to look out and stop in time," said another.
"That man could cause an accident," said a Redditor.
But the man drew some sympathy, too. "Goodness.. the driver never help and called the police?" asked a Facebook user.
"Why film people n shame him?" asked an Instagram user. "Should have checked on his condition n asked where he live at n offered him a ride back to his block n bring him up to his house n inform his family members."
