From truck to doorstep, this is how our parcels are (mis)handled

Ordering stuff online to be delivered has become a way of life for many of us.

This means we have to rely on the people making the deliveries to get our orders intact.

But judging by the video shared by Stomper Namsaj, we really shouldn't order anything that needs to be handled with care.

The video shows someone tossing parcels from the back of a delivery truck to a man at the foot of a Housing Board block. He in turn tossed the parcels to another man who tossed the parcels haphazardly into a pile in the void deck.

According to the time stamp on the video, this took place at Block 118 Pending Road in Bukit Panjang on Sept 11 at 7.09pm.

If you live in the block and are expecting a package, good luck to you.

And it is not just how the parcels are handled, but also where they are sorted before being delivered to our doorstep.

Sharing a photo of packages sprawled around the basement of a Punggol multi-storey carpark, Stomper JJ said: "I saw parcels thrown everywhere on the floor and on drain covers while a person was squatting nearby sorting them.

"So dirty and so unprofessional to treat our paid stuff like trash. The vendors should do something about this."

The photo was taken at Block 196 Punggol Field. The labels on the packages indicate that they were being delivered by SPX Express.

There were complaints by other Stompers about SPX parcels in void decks recently.

In response to a Stomp query regarding the previous complaints, a Shopee spokesperson said: "We value the feedback from residents and take such concerns seriously.

"We have engaged our third-party logistics partners to review the matter, and are working closely with them to ensure deliveries are carried out with care and consideration for shared community spaces.

"We regret any inconvenience caused and remain committed to safe and responsible delivery practices."

Shopee also clarified that SPX is an independent third-party logistics service provider. While it supports Shopee's deliveries, it is not owned by Shopee. SPX provides logistics services to non-Shopee platforms as well.

And finally, Stomper Ailey shared a video of a package of how a package eventually makes it to our doorstep - by a delivery man casually dropping it on the floor.
