'Homeless' couple allegedly go door-to-door selling household items starting from $8
A man and woman have allegedly been going door-to-door in Ang Mo Kio to sell household items.
Stomper I said the couple have visited her unit at Block 510 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 twice. The most recent occasion was sometime between 6.35pm and 7pm on Jan 11.
She told Stomp: This couple has been going door-to-door selling household items by saying that they are homeless.
"The items include Darlie toothpaste and toothbrushes. There were also other things in a trolley box which they did not open up but there was a cardboard hung in front, stating that prices are from $8 to $10."
The Stomper shared a snapshot of what appears to be from CCTV footage. It shows a man and a woman along the corridor, with the latter pushing a trolley.
Door-to-door sales do not constitute a crime, unless offences such as public nuisance or cheating under the guise of door-to-door sales are found to have been committed.
However, the door-to-door sale of food or goods to consumers is a form of illegal hawking, which is an offence under the Environmental Public Health Act. First-time offenders will face a fine of up to $5,000.
Members of the public are advised not to allow anyone to enter their houses, whether door-to-door salesmen or other persons, without verifying the identity of the person.
