A diner was perplexed to be charged $7.90 for a plate of economy rice at a food court in Tampines.

Stomper Francis had visited Koufu in the Giant Hypermarket building at 21 Tampines North Drive 2 on Jan 23, at around 9.50pm.

He ordered rice with mushroom, tau kee (beancurd skin), long beans and a leafy green – none of which had any meat.

Hence, he was shocked to be charged for two meat dishes and two vegetables dishes.

Francis told Stomp: "$7.90 (almost $8) for this meal without meat! Not even minced meat, as the photo of my food clearly shows.

"The staff told me that the mushroom and tau kee are considered meat. They also said it's like that and from their management.

"Two elderly customers who were queuing behind me were shocked and backed off without patronising."
