F&B operator offers $4 refund for 'misunderstanding' over $7.70 economy rice, but Stomper declines

Fei Siong Group, which operates the hawker centre, said the incident was a misunderstanding and the meal is actually $3.70.
A spokesperson told Stomp: "We would like to clarify that there has been a misunderstanding regarding the price of the meal at our stall.
"After investigating the incident thoroughly, we found that the actual price of the meal in question was $3.70, not $7.70 as mentioned by the diner. It appears that the customer may have overheard an incorrect figure of $7.70, which led to the confusion.
"Our stall holder has acknowledged the situation and is committed to resolving it. As a gesture to make things right, our stall holder would like to offer a refund of $4 to the customer to rectify the misunderstanding.
"Thank you for your understanding and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
However, Stomper Pika declined the refund.
He said: "Some doubts if the meal can be less than $4. What about the past few meals when I was charged $5 to $6 for rice with four vegetable dishes?
"I only appeal to the operator that if there are any old folks having meals from the stall next time, please do consider helping them. Thank you."

It was not his first visit to the stall, but definitely his last.
Stomper Pika was charged $7.70 for a plate of economy rice at Buangkok Hawker Centre, located in Sengkang Grand Mall, on Jan 4.
He had ordered egg, beancurd and two types of vegetables with rice. There was no meat, he noted.
Pika told Stomp: "I have been buying from the same stall once or twice a week for the past four to five months. I would normally get charged $6 or less for four vegetable dishes and extra rice.
"I did verify with the stall owner if $7.70 for this meal was correct. They replied that it was right. No error. End of story.
"I will not be buying from the same cai fan stall anymore."
Pika pointed out that another Stomper had complained about paying $4.50 for economy rice with three vegetables and one meat in Sept 2023.
Pika said: "$4.50 still has meat. $7.70 with no meat at all. Which one is worse?"
