Female delivery rider in Tampines shouting match makes police report, reveals to Stomp why she uses PMA

Original article:

Two male food delivery riders recently got into a shouting match with a female rider at the junction of Tampine Ave 4 and Tampines Central 5.

Several Stompers alerted Stomp to videos of the incident posted by two of the three riders.

The woman posted her video in the Complaint Singapore Facebook group under the name Joey PrincessBaby on Aug 8.

She wrote in the post that the other two riders on e-bikes had accused her of shouting at "everybody".

But she said: "I shouted because the toddler was going towards their direction and alerted the mother to look after their own kid before something bad happened. I think I'm not wrong.

"When I reached the traffic light, they started to scold me 'bitch' and asked why I shouted. I explained. Then they took my video and said they would report to LTA (Land Transport Authority)."

Subsequently, one of the two men shared the video that he took of her as well as his side of the story.

He wrote: "There was a video that mentioned this lady was harassed by me. Now let me share my side of this story.

"This lady was riding her PMA (personal mobility aid). (And yes, she is not handicapped or what.) Rode so fast on a pedestrian-only path and still had the cheek to shout at everyone who was in her way.

"She also shouted at one couple who was carrying a baby. When me and my friend said we would report her to LTA, she went berserk."

"Yes, we did exchange vulgarities. Things escalated when she wanted to call her gangster friend to settle the issue with me. I told her I would report her to LTA and she quickly sped off."

In the video, it did not seem like she was calling her "gangster friend" to settle the issue.

The other man was riding an e-bike with a green Grab box at the back.

Stomp has reached out to Grab for more info.

Update:

After the article was published, the male rider who took the video of the female rider contacted Stomp to share more information about the incident.

He said the woman shouted at everyone, including himself and his friend who was in her way.

The rider added: "She did want to call someone to settle the issue with me. I may or may not have it on video. My friend was there and he heard it well.

"She mentioned that there were no licence plates on our e-bikes. That is not true. We have our licence plates all this while and never take them off. Our e-bikes have been registered legally and compliant with LTA's standards. We also passed our mandatory tests.

"I am a part-time delivery rider with Grab and Foodpanda. I only do my deliveries as a side hustle after 6pm four to five days a week once I knock off from my full-time job.

"This was not my first time noticing the lady riding too fast, shouting and honking at pedestrians and other path users who were in her way. There were also other delivery riders in Tampines who had noticed her riding too fast, which could pose a danger to others."

Recounting what happened that night, he said: "On that evening, after she shouted at everyone, including myself and my friend, I confronted her. Yes, I did shout 'bitch' out of anger and asked why she was shouting at me, my friend and others on the path.

"When I told her that I would report to LTA, she became furious and defensive and started to record us. The argument got heated up when she called her friend to settle her issue with me. Then we exchanged more vulgarities. The altercation went on for another eight to 10 minutes. She rode off after I firmly told her that I would report her to LTA."

The rider told Stomp: "I am writing not to demand that I am right and she is in the wrong. I am writing to inform you what exactly happened that evening.

"Tampines has been one of the towns that has seen more mobility device users riding too fast, posing a danger to others around them. I am on the side of supporting safety and not posing a danger to others."
