LTA catches 19 drivers providing illegal ride-hailing services after tip-offs, their vehicles impounded
Another 19 drivers were recently caught by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) providing illegal ride-hailing services.
All their vehicles were impounded, said LTA in a social media post on Aug 6.
"With our ongoing regulatory efforts and tip-offs from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA) and National Taxi Association (Taxi Kaki Singapore), our enforcement officers continue to act against vehicles providing illegal ride-hailing services to safeguard passenger safety and the interests of licensed drivers," said the post.
"During our recent patrols at Gardens by the Bay and Changi Airport, as well as joint ops with Immigration and Checkpoints Authority at a land checkpoint, we caught 19 drivers providing illegal ride-hailing services within Singapore and to/from Malaysia."
NPHVA said in its own Facebook post that it supported LTA's enforcement.
LTA advised: "Do not use illegal ride-hailing services. They not only put your safety at risk, but your journey may also be disrupted if the illegal service you're using is caught in our enforcement ops."
The association added: "These services are unfair to licensed drivers and unsafe for the public."
Those found providing illegal ride-hailing services face up to $3,000 fines and/or six months' jail.
On July 18, 10 drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded by LTA, thanks to NPHVA's tip-off.
