Land Transport Authority (LTA) enforcement officers caught 10 drivers and impounded their vehicles at Changi Airport for providing illegal ride-hailing services on July 18.

In a social media post on July 19, LTA credited a tip-off from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA).

"Avoid using illegal ride-hailing services - they lack proper insurance, pose safety risks, and affect licensed drivers' livelihoods," added LTA.

"We're ramping up enforcement against illegal point-to-point services without a valid Public Service Vehicle Licence (PSVL), including cross-border transport services. This may result in passengers' journeys being disrupted.

"Use only licensed services for a safer and smoother ride."

Offenders may face up to $3,000 fines and/or six months imprisonment.

Sharing LTA's post on Facebook, NPHVA said: "This outcome follows our continued efforts in raising these concerns to the authorities - and we're glad to see action being taken to protect the interests of licensed private-hire drivers.

"We thank our members and drivers on the ground for coming forward and sharing timely updates with us."
