Kind Stomper gives first aid to woman who fell at Jurong Point on his birthday
A man was at Jurong Point on the morning of his 58th birthday when he found himself giving first aid to a stranger.
Stomper Swee Thye said he was near the Cheers convenience store on Aug 13 when he saw a woman trip while going up the steps to avoid a patch of water by the kerb.
"She fell just in front of Cheers," said the senior security supervisor. "I helped her up together with another passer-by and brought her to the queuing point at the POSB branch in Jurong Point."
The woman, who appeared to be in pain, walked slowly afterwards because of discomfort in her kneecap.
"She thanked me," he added. "At first, everyone was just looking.
"She is female, so I was careful not to have unnecessary body contact, but I could not just leave her on the floor."
The Stomper is no stranger to helping others in need.
Swee Thye is part of the Community Emergency and Engagement Committee (CERT) in Geylang Serai, an organised group of volunteers specially trained to respond to emergencies and assist the community in recovery.
Besides performing basic first aid, members are also trained in evacuation and crowd control before and after the emergency authorities arrive.
In July, he called for an ambulance after finding a man lying on the ground next to a Jurong West block.
In 2022, he received a Community First Responder award from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for coming to the aid of an elderly man who fell near Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium.
