Kind bus captain shelters mum and baby from heavy rain at Suntec City bus stop
A bus captain went the extra mile to help a commuter caught in heavy rain at Suntec City on Sept 11.
Stomper Raj, who witnessed the incident, told Stomp the bus stop's design leaves commuters exposed during wet weather.
"The bus shelter at Suntec City does not have a proper cover to board in the event of inclement weather," he said.
"Luckily, this bus captain performed a good deed by sheltering and assisting a mother carrying a baby and a stroller to board the bus in the heavy rain.
"He has a kind heart."
In a video shared by Raj, the SMRT bus captain of bus service 502 is seen holding an umbrella as he guides a woman carrying her child onto the bus, before returning to fetch her stroller and carrying it onboard."
Raj also appealed for improvements to the infrastructure at the busy stop.
He suggested that Suntec City consider installing a column-free hanging plexiglass roof, attached to the structure about 4.5m above the current canopy and extending to the kerb.
"The 4.5m height will facilitate double-decker buses and provide cover for passengers to board and alight safely.
"The high plexiglass canopy will blend with the site's design.
"Now is the opportunity for Suntec City to add this, as they are already refurbishing the lobby's LED screen, which means the additional cost of this bus stop improvement will be significantly lower.
"I hope Suntec City can come forward to install this overhead shelter to better facilitate passengers, especially during bad weather."
