Two married Singaporean couples were among 104 suspected drug offenders nabbed in an islandwide operation conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) from April 12 to 17.

Some of the areas covered in the raid were Bendemeer, Clementi, Jurong West, Marine Parade, Telok Blangah, Yishun and Tampines.

A man, 41, and his wife, 36, were arrested for suspected drug abuse when CNB officers raided their Tampines Avenue 9 home in the early morning of April 14. A small amount of Ice and drug paraphernalia were seized.

Later on the same morning, acting on a tip-off, CNB arrested a Singaporean woman, 40, for suspected drug trafficking at a Bedok North shop. Officers also raided her home in Tampines. A total of 52g of Ice and drug paraphernalia were seized from the lockers at her workplace and her residential unit.

Through follow-up investigations, CNB also arrested her Singaporean husband, 46, at Bedok Reservoir View for suspected drug trafficking. This led to a raid at a Compassvale Street residence, where another Singaporean man, 30, was arrested for suspected drug trafficking. Various drug paraphernalia were seized.

Also on April 14, officers nabbed a Singaporean man, 34, for suspected drug trafficking and a Singaporean woman, 32, for suspected drug abuse at Prinsep Street. About 792g of Ice, 326g of heroin, 49g of Ecstasy tablets and cash amounting to $2,303.15 were seized from the man and his motorcycle.

CNB then raided the man’s hideout at Telok Blangah Rise, where another Singaporean woman, 26, was arrested for suspected drug abuse, and his residence at Yishun Avenue 1. Searches at both premises yielded a total of 42g of cannabis, 33g of Ice and two Erimin-5 tablets, which were seized.

Investigations into the drug activities of all 104 arrested suspects are ongoing.

During the six-day anti-drug operation, a total of about 1,079g of Ice, 793g of cannabis, 345g of heroin, 49g of Ecstasy, 38g of cannabis product, 5g of ketamine, 10 gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) tablets, four Erimin-5 tablets, 10 e-vaporiser pods believed to contain etomidate and cash amounting to $6,708 were seized.

The drugs are estimated to be worth more than $281,000.

If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure heroin”, or more than 250g of methamphetamine, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.
