TikTok users tickled after woman mistakes S'pore Prison Service building for Ikea
A video of a woman mistaking the Singapore Prison Service HQ for an Ikea outlet has left netizens in stitches.
The clip, filmed from inside a vehicle, shows the prison building along Upper Changi Road North, with the Singapore Prison Service sign initially obscured. A woman is heard asking, in Mandarin, what the building is.
"Ikea, lah," another replies confidently, prompting surprise and laughter from the others in the car.
She goes on to explain that the blue-and-yellow facade resembles Ikea's colours, pointing out: "The wall is blue, the words are white!"
More laughter ensues before the signage is revealed. The video ends with someone joking: "Welcome to Ikea."
Posted on Aug 25 by TikToker Evonlution with the cheeky caption, "3rd Ikea Outlet", the video has since drawn more than 87,000 views, 2,500 reactions and 3,500 shares.
Most comments echoed the amusement of the passengers.
"I wonder if they serve Meat Ball n Chicken Wing or not...," quipped one TikToker, referencing Ikea's famous cafeteria fare.
"This one is i-kea (Hokkien), meaning want (to) stay," joked another.
Others felt the mistake was understandable and an easy mistake.
"Tbh (to be honest) without the SPS signboard it looks 99 per cent like Ikea lol," said one.
"Seriously sia... with this colour, Ikea sure comes to your mind first," said another of the furniture store's brand recognition.
The woman in the video, affectionately dubbed "auntie" by netizens, also won over fans.
"LOL SO CUTE AUNTIE," commented one, while another said: "I ded at the Ikea la."
A check on Google Maps showed that the building previously had a grey facade. However, a photo uploaded a month ago indicated a new blue shade.
We did not contact Ikea for their response, but we imagine the similarities in their brand colours with Singapore Prison Service's might deter shoplifting at either of their two outlets.
