'That's 3 generations of rats': Over 20 rodents spotted scurrying around chute at Rivervale Crescent
More than 20 rats were spotted scurrying around a refuse chute area at an HDB block in Sengkang - a sight that left netizens horrified.
A TikTok video posted by user @NightRiderSG showed rats of various sizes darting around the chute at Block 183D Rivervale Crescent late at night - visible only under the beam of a car's headlights.
Some rodents were seen poking their heads through the drain grates before dashing out, while others were seen scampering up nearby trees.
The clip, captioned "Over 20 rats at 183D Rivervale Crescent", has since garnered more than 25,000 views and 140 reactions.
Speaking to Stomp, NightRiderSG said he filmed the video at around 1am on Nov 1.
"I am a Grab driver dropping off a passenger at 183D Rivervale Crescent when I saw 20 over rats climbing trees and coming out of grass patches and drain covers," he said.
He added that as a night driver, he often sees one or two rats or a few cockroaches in HDB estates or condominiums, which is quite normal. "But this is above normal," he said.
'East side rat site': Netizen
Netizens were quick to weigh in.
One suggested: "No more stray cats so the rats come out. But the snakes will come, like my previous home in Punggol."
"In some estates, the waste areas are poorly maintained - the foul smell and presence of rats are becoming quite common," said another.
Others pointed out that it wasn't an isolated issue: "Tampines North Blk 608B also a lot (of) rats," one user said.
Still, some managed to find humour in the infestation.
"That's like a whole three generations," quipped one. "East side rat site," said another.
Stomp has contacted Sengkang Town Council for more information.
