Tesla Model Y's bonnet flips open while overtaking another car: 'The most advanced brake system'
A viral video showing the front bonnet of a Tesla Model Y flipping open while attempting to overtake another vehicle has amused many netizens.
The short clip, recorded at 1.17pm on Feb 1 and shared on Facebook page SGRV Admin on Feb 4, shows the Tesla about to overtake a car when its bonnet opens spontaneously, forcing the driver to slow to a halt on the right-most lane along Thomson Road.
The clip has had 77,000 views, 404 reactions, and 108 comments.
'The most advanced brake system'
The lid of the front trunk, or "frunk" as Tesla calls it, is electronically controlled, which left netizens wondering how the bonnet could have flipped open while the car was in motion.
"This isn't the first one I've seen where the model y frunk flipped open. Seems like a common issue or is it many people mod it and disable the sensor or something?" asked a netizen.
"Model Y Juniper won't allow you to drive if the frunk is not latched in the first place. Likely 3rd party soft closing kit issues," another Facebook user speculated.
Most netizens, however, saw the funny side of things, even though the malfunction could have caused an accident. Many jokingly alluded to "air brakes", a flap which reduces an aircraft's speed.
"The most advanced brake system, inspired by aircraft wing brake system," one netizen said.
"Wah Tesla's new function? To stop driver from speeding," another suggested.
"Sun shade activated," quipped yet another.
One Facebook user, alluding to the aerospace company owned by Tesla founder Elon Musk, said: "This is the Tesla Space X model."
