A man was seen golfing in an empty field along Grange Road — near Orchard Boulevard — in a TikTok clip that has amused many online.

In a 13-second clip posted by TikTok user @buildingsledge on Feb 4, a man in a blue polo tee, white pants, and a cap is seen lining up his shot before swinging his club at a golf ball.

The original poster then panned his camera to follow the trajectory of the ball until it landed.

A mobile toilet and a mini crane can be seen on a nearby grass verge.

The video was cheekily captioned: "Uncle sees a driving range where I see a lawn. Different perspectives 😅"

The clip has amassed at least 350,000 views, 9,400 likes and 140 comments.

On Feb 6, the TikTok user posted another video that appears to show a similar-looking man practising golf on the same grass field.

Funny moment at 'Takashimaya driving range'

Noah, the person behind the TikTok account, told Stomp that he was walking past the area when he witnessed the man "casually hitting a few golf balls in a public area."

"It struck me as a funny, unexpected kind of moment, so I filmed a short clip," he added.

Noah, who only shared his first name, added that he did not speak to the golfer, and declined to share specific details of the incident as he does not want the man to be identified.

"The intent was just light, harmless humour, not to shame anyone or start enforcement chatter," he clarified.

While a handful of netizens pointed out that flying golf balls might be dangerous, most joined in the joke.

One user wrote: "I support you uncle, good use of free will". Others also commended the man for cleverly making use of empty space and saving money on "expensive" club memberships.

TikTok user @aikaonpurpose even invited the man to Bukit Panjang. "We have a mega lawn too," the user wrote.

"Takashimaya driving range," joked user @Bingster, prompting Noah to remark that the name "has a ring to it."

According to OneMap, a map of Singapore maintained by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), most of the plot is publicly owned by SLA, with smaller sections owned by the Land Transport Authority and the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment. A small portion is privately owned.

However, it is unclear which exact spot the golfer was standing on.

SLA's website states that there are 264 state fields currently open for community use. While these spaces are open to the public, SLA advises users to be considerate and use them safely.
