It is unclear why the bakery door could not be opened or how long the customers were inside the bakery, and how long the rescue effort took.

brandondon told Stomp that a crowd had gathered at the scene, and he assumed that the customers had been there for "a few hours".

'They can pass time while learning how to make bread';

"Imagine buying a waffle and got stuck for 5 hrs [sic]," one user quipped, while another question, "How did the door get stuck?"

Alluding to a bystander at the cordoned-off area who seemed to be intently watching the SMRT staff at work, a commenter said in jest: "Uncle with the yellow plastic bag, the supervisor."

"If you need to access the toilet, that's even worse," another user remarked.

Some made light of the situation, with one commenting: "Can have a bread buffet while waiting".

Another said: "They can pass time while learning how to make bread."

Stomp has reached out to Bakery Cuisine for comment.

SMRT had not responded to queries at press time.
