Rush hour commuters hit by water gushing from Raffles Place MRT station platform ceiling

Commuters at Raffles Place were met with water gushing from a dislodged panel in the station's ceiling on the morning of Sept 17.

A video sent to Stomp shows water pooling on the station platform, with barricades placed around the affected areas.

The ground is also littered with newspapers.

A post on the subreddit r/singapore by user TheDoorDoesntWork at around 8am also included an image of the MRT platform.

The caption reads: "The poor MRT staff and cleaners were working hard to contain the situation. At least it seemed to be fresh water and the train worked fine."

The incident follows a slew of train breakdowns in the month of September, with the most recent reports being a two-hour delay on the Thomson-East Coast Line on Sept 17, and disruptions on the East West Line between Aljunied and Tanah Merah on Sept 16.

Redditors lamented the increasing number of train-related incidents, with some claiming that the train system is "falling apart".

One complained: "Got affected by the TEL disruption and had to go to Raffles Place to get the EWL instead. Saw the water pouring from the ceiling and wondered if I somehow ended up in New York today."

In response to queries from The New Paper, SMRT said it is looking into the matter.
