A man convicted of molestation in late 2024 went on to outrage the modesty of a 72-year-old woman in April following his release from jail.

On June 3, repeat offender Cheng Sang Tai, 66, pleaded guilty to a molestation charge and was sentenced to seven weeks' jail.

Three other similar charges were considered during his sentencing.

Without revealing details, Deputy Public Prosecutor Xu Sijia said Cheng was in November 2024 convicted of molestation and sentenced to a week behind bars.

He was also sentenced to eight weeks' jail for sexual exposure at the time.

In the current case, DPP Xu told the court that Cheng was at a coffee shop in April when he approached the woman, who was working as a cleaner there.

Details about the victim and the eatery cannot be disclosed due to a gag order.

Cheng squeezed the woman's right buttock before walking away.

The police were alerted on April 18, and he was charged in court soon after.

For molestation, an offender can be jailed for up to three years, fined, caned or receive any combination of such punishments.

Cheng cannot be caned as he is over 50.
