In a follow-up to the double death case in Punggol, a friend of the elderly male revealed that he had previously worked as an airport baggage handler and appeared to share a close relationship with his wife.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the incident occurred in the early morning of Feb 27 at Block 408B Northshore Drive. The deceased were identified as 71-year-old Lim Yuan Guang (transliterated) and his 66-year-old wife, Li Hui Juan (transliterated).

The couple had been married for 48 years.

They were found lying in the living room with injuries from a sharp object. Bloodstains were observed in the living room and near the doorway.

Lim was understood to have suffered from depression. Neighbours reported that he had appeared unwell and pale, with difficulty standing, and had confided in relatives about concerns over his wife's illness and her future care.

Husband was former airport baggage handler

A friend of Lim, who wished to be known only as Mr Dong (transliterated), told Shin Min that he had worked with him for the past two years as an airport baggage handler.

The 65-year-old said they had grown close, often chatting about everyday matters, with Lim frequently opening up about his personal life.

"He was very cheerful and talkative, and got along well with everyone," Mr Dong said.

He described Lim as helpful, adding that he had lent money to colleagues in times of need and never chased them for repayment.

Last December, however, Lim resigned due to health reasons and had been resting at home since. While he did not disclose details of his condition, he continued updating Mr Dong daily about his life and whereabouts.

"There didn't seem to be anything unusual," he told the Shin Min reporter.

About a week before Chinese New Year, Lim suddenly became uncontactable and stopped answering calls.

Friends only learned of the couple's deaths through media reports, leaving them shocked and devastated.

Couple appeared close

Mr Dong said Lim often spoke about spending time with his wife, sharing stories of them going out to eat and explore different places together. He said the two seemed to have a very good relationship.

"He often said his wife drove him around to have fun, try good food and eat durian," Mr Dong said.

He added that he had never heard Lim complain about or criticise his wife, and was therefore very shocked when he learned of the tragedy.
