A 27-year-old male motorcyclist was sent to hospital after riding between lanes and crashing into the rear of a car on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) towards Tuas on Valentine's Day.

In a 52-second video posted by SG Road Vigilante, a motorcyclist clad in a red top and blue jeans weaves along the middle and right-most lane of Aljunied Flyover at 1.19pm, speeding towards a line of slow-moving cars.

The motorcyclist travels towards a navy blue Audi. A puff of white smoke can be seen emanating from the bike's rear wheel as the biker seemingly attempts to brake at the last minute to avoid a crash.

However, the back of the motorcycle strikes the car's rear. The motorcyclist tumbles over the neighbouring two lanes, then immediately stands up, limping towards his bike as the Audi stops at the road shoulder.

In response to Stomp's queries, a police spokesperson said they were alerted to the road traffic accident along PIE towards Tuas at about 1.20pm. The male motorcyclist was conveyed conscious to hospital.

Investigations are ongoing.

Lane splitting, or riding between lanes to bypass congestion, is currently not an offence in Singapore.

In January, a 41-year-old male motorcyclist was conveyed to hospital after lane splitting and colliding with another motorcycle on the Bukit Timah Expressway.
