McDonald's Tampines Mall outlet closing on Mar 9 after operating for over 30 years
The McDonald's outlet at Tampines Mall will cease operations on Mar 9 after operating for more than 30 years.
A photo of a notice announcing the outlet's imminent closure was posted to the I Love Tampines Facebook page on Feb 3.
The outlet's last day of operation will be on Mar 8.
In a statement to Stomp, a McDonald's spokesperson said: "It has been a privilege to serve generations of customers at Tampines Mall for more than 30 years, and to be part of so many everyday moments and memories."
The spokesperson added that customers can head to nearby outlets to satisfy their McDonald's fix.
There are three other outlets in the vicinity of Tampines Mall, including two at Tampines Bus Interchange, and one at Our Tampines Hub.
"It's Tampines Mall's icon"
News of the closure left netizens shocked, with some pointing out that the outlet was synonymous with Tampines Mall after decades of occupancy.
"Woah no way. Entering [Tampines Mall] from MRT equals passing by McDs. It'll never be the same experience not having McDs there," one Facebook user said.
Another netizen suggested that the closure was due to the high number of McDonald's outlets in the area: "u [sic] have Tampines Mall, Tampines Interchange, and the kiosk at [sic] inside the interchange itself".
The closure follows Isetan's exit from Tampines Mall last November after 30 years as the mall's anchor tenant.
