A passer-by who spotted a box of snacks left out for delivery riders outside a home was seen helping himself to one, before returning later to clear out the box.

TikTok user @twomomssg shared CCTV footage of the incident on April 1, showing a man pulling a shopping trolley as he walked past the unit.

A box of what appeared to be packaged snacks had been placed on a chair outside the home. An on-screen caption explained: “Usually we leave out some snacks for the people delivering our parcels. Cause we know it can get busy.”

As he walked past, the man noticed the box, took a green packet and left.

He later returned and emptied the box, placing two handfuls of snacks into his trolley.

“Not sure why this uncle decided to take everything. Not that it’s anything wrong with that, but just wondering why,” the user wrote in the on-screen caption.

“If he’s struggling to put food on the table we can all help,” the user added.

‘Was wondering maybe he really needed it’

The post garnered more than 16,000 views, with some netizens calling the behaviour “inconsiderate” and “wrong”.

“If it ain’t yours, it ain’t yours,” one pointed out.

One commented that it was “so hard to be kind”, to which twomomssg responded: “Was wondering maybe he really needed it.”

Others speculated that the man might not have known the snacks were meant for delivery riders.

“Maybe you can write a small note: Delivery man is [sic] for you. Take good care,” suggested one netizen. “Good idea actually,” replied twomomssg.

Some also suggested that cultural norms may have contributed to the man’s behaviour.

“Singapore is a very kiasu country, no matter how modern the things are, anything free will take all,” one wrote.
