Man allegedly snatches bag with $137 cash in Bedok, victim has minor injuries
A 57-year-old man was arrested for allegedly snatching a sling bag from a woman.
The police said they were alerted to the case along Bedok North Street 2 on Nov 27 at around 1.19am.
The man allegedly ran after snatching the bag, leaving the victim with minor injuries.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre established the man's identity and arrested him within eleven hours of the report.
The sling bag and cash of $137 were recovered.
The man will be charged in court on Nov 28 with the offence of snatch theft, which carries a jail term of between one and seven years, and caning.
The police said they will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
Members of the public who encounter such cases are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call the police as soon as possible.
