Man, 67, charged for stealing 88 cans of beer from FairPrice in Clementi and Giant Express in Ghim Moh

A 67-year-old man was charged on Nov 20 for stealing 88 cans of beer from stores in Clementi and Ghim Moh.

Jamaludin Mohamed allegedly stole a carton containing 20 cans of Heineken beer, valued at $59.95, from an NTUC FairPrice supermarket at Block 451 Clementi Avenue 3 on Aug 15.

Police established his identity on Aug 21 through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras.

Further investigations revealed that Jamaludin was previously issued a 24-month conditional warning on June 12 for his involvement in three other cases of shop theft, amounting to about $199.

Between the May 16 and 17, he allegedly stole from a Giant Express outlet at Block 21 Ghim Moh Road:

  • One carton containing 24 cans of Tiger beer valued at $69.50
  • One carton containing 20 cans of Heineken beer valued at $64.50
  • One carton containing 24 cans of Carlsberg beer valued at $64.80

Jamaludin was charged with one count of theft in dwelling and one count of amalgamated theft in dwelling.

The offence of theft in dwelling carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine or both.
