'If my mum sees this, my dad GG': TikToker says dad spent $1.6k on durians from door-to-door seller
A TikTok user has gone viral after sharing that her father allegedly spent $1,600 on durians sold door-to-door by a man claiming to be from Malaysia.
In the one-minute clip posted on Oct 29, TikTok user @dezthedin0 recounted how a durian seller turned up at their home on Oct 28, saying he "just drove all the way down from Pahang, Malaysia" with a truckload of durians he couldn't sell.
The post, captioned "If my mom sees this, my dad GG alr", has since garnered over 18,400 views, 570 likes and 90 comments.
Over 100 kg worth of durians
According to the TikToker, her father ended up buying two sacks of Mao Shan Wang durians, weighing over 100kg in total, for $1,600, although it was unclear if the amount was in Singapore or Malaysian currency.
The seller, who was going door to door, reportedly claimed his Singapore customer had cancelled on him, and that he couldn't return home to his wife and two-year-old daughter unless he sold off the load.
The durian seller "brought his knife and cut open the durians" right there, the TikToker said in the comments, adding that the fruits were "actually really good".
She added that her father later shared the durians with relatives and friends.
"I think he was selling them quite cheaply compared to Singapore prices," the TikTok said.
Kind-hearted or 'kena scammed'?
Reactions in the comments were mixed, with some praising the man's generosity and others warning it could have been a scam.
While some were shocked by the amount her father paid, wondering whether it was in Singapore or Malaysian dollars, some others found the purchase cheap, jokingly asking her to "resell for a higher price".
"Your dad is super kind!" one user added.
However, some felt the quoted price was "too expensive".
One joked that "many sellers would soon be paying him (the TikToker's father) a visit".
"Every day that durian seller will have customer cancel on him," one quipped. The TikToker responded: "But he sounds so genuine!"
"I don't think anyone else got to experience this since you bought all the durians," one said in jest, responding to the TikToker's query on whether others experienced such sellers before.
Some users also claimed to have encountered something similar, with one saying: "Girl same thing happened to me."
