HDB lift lobby transformed every CNY, resident turns on fairy lights when he hears visitors
A group of neighbours' annual tradition of decorating their lift lobby for the festive season has drawn positive responses online, with many commending the display of community spirit.
TikToker @jaejaepeanut posted a video of the tradition on Feb 18, showing a group of residents gathering at the 19th-floor lift lobby of an HDB block.
"Every Chinese New Year, the 19th floor on my grandma's block come [sic] together to decorate the entire lobby for everyone to come and take photos," the user wrote.
The camera pans across a lift lobby decked out in festive decorations, with cut-outs of horses pasted on the walls and flower pots lining an artificial fence.
Fairy lights and red lanterns hang from the ceiling, while auspicious banners bearing well wishes are displayed on the pillars.
"If the uncle hears you outside he'll help you turn on the fairy lights," the TikToker added in the caption, recalling how the man who helped them take the photo was also about to take one with his family.
In the comments, netizens commended the group's community spirit, describing the initiative as "wholesome" and "magical".
