An estate in Serangoon was awakened by "loud banging noises" in the early hours of Nov 22, as police and civil defence personnel descended in the wake of an e-waste bin fire.

"I thought it sounded like (fire)crackers going off," wrote Stomper Anonymous in a Facebook post. "It kept on going and when we opened the window to peek, gunpowder smell and smoke wafted into the bedroom."

When Anonymous looked out the window of her flat, she saw police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel gathered below.

In response to Stomp's queries, a spokesperson said that SCDF was alerted to a fire at Block 318 Serangoon Avenue 2 at about 12.25am on Nov 22.

"The fire involved an e-waste bin on the ground floor. SCDF extinguished the fire using a fire extinguisher," said the spokesperson. "There were no reported injuries."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
