God of Fortune spotted at Singapore Pools on eve of $12m Hong Bao Draw: 'Insider trading, ah?'
The God of Fortune was spotted apparently buying Toto a day before the $12 million Hong Bao draw, leaving amused netizens lamenting in jest that times are bad.
The image, shared on Reddit on Feb 26 with the heading "Even the God of Fortune needs some luck", shows a man dressed as prosperity deity Cai Shen Ye ticking off numbers on his Toto ticket.
The post has been upvoted more than a thousand times while drawing 38 comments.
"Inflation is hitting everyone hard this year. Even the heavens need a side hustle," said a Redditor.
Another suggested it was illegal: "HAHA cai shen ye doing insider trading ah."
One Redditor joked that the God of Fortune must have changed his portfolio: "(This is the) god of gambling."
One philosophical Redditor commented: "Doing his job , everyone who bought are God of Fortune contributing to the prize pool for the winners."
'What number, boss?'
Others were more practical. "The numbers he's buying, I wanna buy too," said one Redditor.
Another said sardonically: "You know you're cooked when the God of Fortune himself is gambling."
A similar image – seemingly of the same man but without a beard – was also shared by Facebook user @Umesh Kishore Tekani. "I'm sorry everyone, this week is mine. Please try again next week," says the caption in a mix of English and Chinese.
"What number boss?" asked a hopeful Facebook user.
"Thank you God of Fortune, for packing the second prize prize prize, and leaving the first prize prize to me, really grateful. I'll wrap a big hong bao for you," commented another in Chinese.
