Geylang slashing: Two men who attacked another with kitchen knives charged in court
Two men in their 20s who slashed another man in Geylang following a dispute were charged on Aug 30 with voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
Shin Min Daily News reported that they slashed the 51-year-old man's left wrist with a kitchen knife, potentially causing a fatal injury, and rupturing nerves, arteries, and tendons in three fingers in the process.
The incident occurred at around 5am on Aug 29 outside a restaurant at Geylang Lorong 25A.
Following a tip off from a reader, Shin Min reporters who visited the restaurant on the day of the incident found large, clotted bloodstains on the exterior walls of the eatery and the adjacent road.
The bloodstains on the ground nearby stretched for approximately 100 meters from the crime scene.
Several police cars and crime scene investigation vehicles were parked at the scene, while officers were also seen with evidence bags.
'It was really frightening'
A restaurant employee who witnessed the incident told Shin Min that the victim had finished his meal and was sitting outside the restaurant. Two young men walked to the uncle's table, and the three of them proceeded to the roadside.
The employee then saw one of the young men raise a kitchen knife to the victim, whose arm was cut as he raised his hand to block it. "The uncle was bleeding profusely after being slashed, and he was running and shouting while the two men chased him with kitchen knives. It was really frightening."
A shop assistant who works at a nearby store said that when he arrived early in the morning on Aug 29, he saw the victim lying on the pavement.
Police officers and paramedics were already on the scene, and the victim was subsequently carried into an ambulance and sent to hospital.
Police were called at around 6am. Preliminary investigations revealed that two men, aged 24 and 26, clashed with a 51-year-old man, who was subsequently slashed with a kitchen knife.
The man was conscious when taken to hospital.
Through subsequent investigations and review of CCTV footage, the police identified the two suspects and arrested them within five hours..
