A former Sushiro waitress is to be jailed for submitting falsified timesheets for two and a half years, cheating her former employer of more than $120,000.

According to Shin Min Daily News, 24-year-old Jolin Lau, who currently works as a livestreamer, will serve eight months in jail after facing three counts of forgery.

On Nov 20, Lau pleaded guilty to one charge of forgery, with the remaining charges taken into consideration during sentencing.

Continued submitting timesheets even after leaving Sushiro

Court documents revealed that Lau was employed as a waitress at Sushiro GH Singapore from March 2020 to June 2022, and was hired through the recruitment agency Oriental Aviation International (OAI).

During her employment, she submitted monthly timesheets via email to OAI, which were used to track her working hours for payroll purposes. Each timesheet required her signature and approval from the restaurant manager at the end of the month.

Despite leaving Sushiro in July 2022, Lau continued submitting timesheets to the recruitment agency for a year and a half.

She forged the documents by editing scanned copies of her old timesheets on her phone, altering the dates while keeping her signature and that of the manager intact.

'Did not admit liability'

Lau was found out in Jan 2025, when OAI discovered that she had left Sushiro in June 2022, and launched an investigation.

When questioned, she initially claimed she had been reassigned to another branch but later admitted to falsifying the timesheets.

OAI offered a settlement, which Lau accepted after adding that she "did not admit liability".

She has since repaid the company in full.
