'F*** Chinese': Driver whose car display flashed racist message says screen was hacked

Published

Motorists driving along Woodlands Centre Road on Nov 20 had a rude shock when a car was spotted with a racist message displayed on its rear window.

A silver Honda Spada was filmed by the motorist behind it. The car had a display screen showing the words "F*** Chinese" in capital letters.

The video, shared by Facebook page @SG Road Vigilante, includes close-up shots of the car's rear window and a screenshot of the car's license plate, indicating that the vehicle is registered under the Chauffeured Private Hire Scheme.

Driver says screen was hacked

Vehicle owner Maman Kassan told Stomp that the screen had been hacked, as it could be connected to other devices via Bluetooth to make changes to the display.

The private-hire vehicle driver said that any person using the "iPixel Color" app could alter the display, as he had not set a password for the device.

"I did not set any password as I did not know that it can be set," he added in the comments section of the Facebook post. "My conscience is clear but somehow someone who did this to me is really causing a racial stir."

He also said that he is being investigated and will not comment further.

In response to Stomp's queries, the police confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.

Netizens amused

Some netizens were amused at the sight, while others were shocked.

"Almost every car here fixed with cameras. This guy really looking for trouble," one netizen said. "Don't understand what he's thinking."

Several commenters urged authorities to look into the incident, questioning whether such displays were legal.
